On my trip home from my recent ministry trip to Belize, we ended up staying a night in Miami. Talk about a weird layout for an airport. Anyway, as I was showering the next morning before flying home, I was thinking about the mission trip and talking with God. Suddenly, He brought to my remembrance a line from a children’s movie. According to the laws of aviation, there is no way a bee should be able to fly… but the bee flies anyway! Obviously bees don’t care what humans think is possible. It really surprised me because who would think of God speaking to them using a quote from a kid’s movie. I waited because I knew there would be an explanation following shortly thereafter. He said, “This is how Christians need to be. They need to stop caring what others think is possible.”
It was the kind of thing to make me stop and think about my own life and what I had been allowing others to say was possible in my life. It was so big in my spirit that I thought about it consistently for the next several days. I’m even still thinking about it now. It was so overpowering that I couldn’t even think of a response to it. Of course, as time went on, I had some questions like “How do we not let others tell us what’s possible?” In response, He gave me Matthew chapter 6 where Jesus is talking about how God takes care of the birds and clothes the lilies. Jesus goes on to teach about how much more we are cared for by the Father. It doesn’t matter what others think or say. The only thing that matters is that God loves us, watches over us, and wants what’s best for us. When God instructs us to do something, or that He’s going to do something for us, what humans think is possible or impossible doesn’t matter.
I’ve heard plenty of believers say “God told me this, but…” When God says something, there is no “but.” God cannot lie… no ifs, ands, or buts. The only thing stopping what God is trying to do in your life is your own unbelief. Why stop something that God, who IS Love, is trying to do for you? It doesn’t matter what you think is possible! It doesn’t what any of your friends, family, or coworkers say is possible! All that matters is what God KNOWS is possible. Don’t let your own doubt limit God. We see in Mark 6:5-6 “And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them. And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching.” Their unbelief is what stopped Jesus from doing mighty works. Don’t let that be you! Don’t make Jesus marvel at your disbelief. So take a lesson from the bees and don’t pay attention to what humans think is possible or impossible. Pay attention to God and what He says is possible.
