I want to talk with you about THE NAME as a place – a location.
In Proverbs 18:10 KJV, the Lord, through Solomon, tells us, “The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.”
The Message Translation says it this way, “GOD’s name is a place of protection— good people can run there and be safe.”
And we are not supposed to run in there only every now and then when we are in trouble and then duck back out again! Let’s look over at Colossians 3:17 KJV, “And WHATSOEVER ye do in word or deed, do ALL in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.” (Emphasis mine)
The only way we can say every word we say and do every action we do inside that NAME is if we LIVE inside that name!
This is what David was telling us in the entire 91st Psalm. You need to go back and study this Psalm in its entirety in light of what we are looking at in this letter!
“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid for the TERROR by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the PESTILENCE that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any PLAGUE come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet. Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath KNOWN MY NAME. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.” – Psalms 91:1-16 KJV
Right now though, I want to point out 3 things:
- David says we are to LIVE in the secret place
- Just in the first two verses, David refers to four different names of God – the “most High” is èlyown (the Supreme), the “Almighty” is Shadday (the Almighty), the “Lord” is Yhovah (the Eternal, the Lord) and my “God” is èlohiym (exceeding great and mighty)
- David tells us in the last verses of the chapter that we will be set on high (this is the exact same word in Hebrew that is translated “safe” in Proverbs 18:10) because we know and call upon THE NAME! We LIVE there!
I want you to see something very interesting about David. He wasn’t “just a preachin!” David lived this! Turn over to 1 Samuel 17. As you know, this is the account of Goliath’s colossal defeat at the hands of David.
Goliath shoots his mouth off telling David all the things he thinks are about to happen but then look at verses 45-47.
“Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied. This day will the Lord deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. And all this assembly shall know that the Lord saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give you into our hands.” – 1 Samuel 17:45-47 KJV
Did you catch that in verse 45?
“I come to you IN THE NAME!” David was perfectly safe and set on high INSIDE his secret place! I’m telling you, Goliath could have had an atomic bomb, the Coronavirus, or any other deadly plague, and it could not have touched David!
This month I want to encourage you to start living inside THE NAME! Everything you could possibly need or want is in THE NAME!
Do you need healing? It’s in there!
Do you need protection? It’s in there!
Do you need financial prosperity? It’s in there!
Do you need peace? It’s in there!
Do you need salvation? Not only is it in there, there is no other NAME in which it is even available! (Acts 4:12 KJV)
In these last days particularly, we need to not only run into the NAME of the Lord – we need to LIVE there! As the Holy Spirit, through the Apostle Paul tells us in Acts 17:28 KJV, we need to “live and move and have our being” in Him!
