Hello everyone! My name is Ryan Weeter and today I’m going to be talking about who is backing you up! God! One of the first verses I ever memorized was Nahum 1:7 which says “The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.”  That was one of my go to verses for encouragement and protection. Then, just the other day God told me to read the surrounding verses.

Just looking at the verses before and after created such a change in how I saw this verse.  Nahum 1:6-8 says “Who can can stand before his indignation? And who can abide in the fierceness of his anger? His fury is poured out like a fire, and the rocks are thrown down by him. The Lord is good, and a stronghold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him. But with an overrunning flood he will make an utter end of the place thereof, and darkness shall pursue his enemies.”  This scripture isn’t just a nice little scripture about how good God is. It certainly is, but this is about how powerful he is! We have God almighty surrounding us and fighting on our behalf!

Most Christians know Romans 8:31 “What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?”  Too often and too many of us read that and don’t understand the power of that and the power of God that backs us up and empowers that promise.  God, the creator of the universe, creator of everything from galaxies to atoms is backing you up. God who defends you with fierceness poured out like a fire, who puts an end to our enemies with an overrunning flood! This is our God, this is our dad!

Look at all the times that someone in the Old Testament revered the power of God! The story of the fiery furnace and Daniel and the lion’s den immediately come to mind.  Both times the king saw the power of God and changed national law because of it! That’s our God! The God who paused the time of day for his children, who delivered us from hell! Our God, THE GOD!

Too many Christians forget that.  Too many Christians don’t think of God as who He truly is.  I remember learning about the Salem witch trials and the whole time I was thinking “Why don’t they bring the issue to God? Why are they so scared of the devil? Don’t they know that God is more powerful?” Too many Christians are like that today. Thinking that the devil has more power over their lives and, though they would never admit it, act like the devil is the only one with actual power.  We should act like we have the most powerful being in the universe supporting us, backing us up, and protecting us… BECAUSE WE DO! How different would you act if you had Superman hovering with you as your personal bodyguard? Well our God is greater than Superman! I encourage you to walk in the confidence of God, knowing that he is with you and for you. Have a blessed day!
